A scenic journey from Whittier to Vancouver, featuring Glacier Bay & Hubbard Glacier
There are some trips that are beautiful… and then there are trips that feel almost unreal. Alaska falls into that second category.

This itinerary begins in Whittier, just outside of Anchorage, where you’ll board Nieuw Amsterdam and start your journey south along Alaska’s rugged coastline toward Vancouver.
Early in the sailing, you’ll experience Hubbard Glacier, one of the most active tidewater glaciers in North America. It’s the kind of day where you’ll want your camera nearby, but you’ll also want to just stop and take it all in.
The ports along the way each bring their own personality to the trip.
Skagway offers a glimpse into Alaska’s Gold Rush history, along with one of the most scenic rail journeys you can take.
Juneau, Alaska’s capital, is surrounded by mountains and water, with opportunities for whale watching and glacier visits.
Ketchikan is known for its colorful waterfront, rich Native heritage, and easy access to the surrounding rainforest.
And then there’s the time in between.
Cruising through the Inside Passage is an experience all on its own. Calm waters, forested islands, and the constant chance of spotting whales or eagles along the way. These are the moments where you grab a cup of tea, find a comfortable spot, and just watch Alaska unfold around you.
What I’ve always appreciated about sailing Alaska with Holland America Line is how well they understand the destination. The pace feels right. The ships are comfortable without being overwhelming. And the focus stays where it should…on the scenery and the experience.
This isn’t a trip you rush through. It’s one you settle into.
