Spring in Bloom 2027: A Tulip Time River Cruise

🌷 Spring in Bloom 2027: A Tulip Time River Cruise I’ve Been Waiting to Share

There are some trips that just feel a little more special than others.

This is one of them.

I’m excited to officially introduce a group river cruise I’ll be hosting in April 2027, sailing through Holland and Belgium right in the heart of tulip season. If seeing the tulips in bloom has ever been on your list—even as a quiet “someday”—this is exactly the kind of trip that turns that into a reality.

And in my opinion, it’s very much a bucket list experience.

🌷 Why Tulip Time Is Such a Big Deal

Tulip season in the Netherlands is short. Really short.

For just a few weeks each spring, everything comes together—the timing, the weather, the blooms—and the country transforms into something that almost doesn’t feel real.

Fields of color stretch out in every direction, and places like Keukenhof Gardens open their gates to showcase millions of flowers all at once. It’s not something you can plan “whenever it works.” You have to go at the right time.

That’s exactly what this itinerary is built around.

🚢 Why I Chose Avalon Waterways

There are a lot of ways to see Europe… but river cruising is one of the easiest and most enjoyable, especially for this kind of trip.

And Avalon is one of my favorite ways to do it.

If you’ve never sailed with them before, here’s what really stands out:

Panorama Suites (this is a big one)

Avalon doesn’t do traditional balconies. Instead, their Panorama Suites have floor-to-ceiling windows that open up, turning your entire room into your view.

You can sit on the sofa, relax in a chair, or even lie in bed—and still take in everything outside. It’s one of those features you don’t fully appreciate until you experience it.

The Food (consistently excellent)

This is something my clients always comment on.

Meals onboard are thoughtfully prepared, with a good mix of regional dishes and familiar favorites. It’s not overly formal, but it feels elevated—and it’s a big part of the overall experience.

Add in beer and wine with lunch and dinner, plus a daily Happy Hour, and it all feels very relaxed and easy.

What’s Included (and why it matters)

River cruising is a different kind of value.

With Avalon, you’re not constantly adding things on:

  • A selection of shore excursions is included in every port
  • You’re docking right in the heart of town
  • You’re not dealing with crowds or long lines

It’s a much more seamless way to travel… and that changes the entire feel of the trip. For more information about Avalon, Click Here.

🌍 A Look at the Itinerary

This cruise begins and ends in Amsterdam, one of the most charming cities in Europe.

From there, you’ll sail through a mix of well-known cities and smaller, less-visited towns, including:

  • Rotterdam, with its modern architecture and busy port
  • Antwerp, known for its history and vibrant atmosphere
  • Ghent, with its medieval charm and canals
  • Middelburg, a quieter town that gives you a glimpse into the Netherlands’ past

And of course, one of the true highlights:

🌷 Keukenhof Gardens (Included Excursion)

Your visit to Keukenhof is included as part of the itinerary, with the option to choose a half-day or full-day experience depending on how much time you’d like to spend there.

It’s one of those places that truly lives up to the photos—millions of flowers in bloom, beautifully designed gardens, and a setting that feels almost unreal. And because it’s built into the cruise, you don’t have to worry about logistics… you can just enjoy it.

(I’ve written a full post about Keukenhof and why it’s so special—you can read more about it here.)

🌷 Why I Put This Group Together

This is one I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

Seeing the tulips in bloom in the Netherlands has been on my list for years—probably going back to my time running a flower shop. There’s just something about this particular trip that feels different.

It’s not rushed. It’s not complicated. It’s just… beautiful.

And that’s exactly the kind of experience I like to share with my clients.

🌷 A Thought to Leave You With

Some trips are easy to put off.

“This looks nice… maybe someday.”

But this is one of those experiences that doesn’t come around all the time. The timing matters. The space is limited. And once it’s full, it’s full.

If this has ever been on your list—even just a little—it might be worth taking a closer look. Check out more information about sailing this itinerary here. Choosing your cabin, pricing, etc.
