Let’s Go: Dreaming of France, Inspired by Baudelaire

“Mais les vrais voyageurs sont ceux-là seuls qui partent pour partir;
Cœurs légers, semblables aux ballons,
De leur fatalité jamais ils ne s’écartent,
Et, sans savoir pourquoi, disent toujours: Allons!”
— Charles Baudelaire

“But the true travelers are only those who leave just to be gone; hearts light as balloons… they never stray from their destiny, and without knowing why, they always say: Let’s go!”

I first heard this quote many years ago in a place where many of my travel dreams begin — the Impressions de France film in the French pavilion at EPCOT. It’s still one of my favorite hidden gems at Walt Disney World (when it’s playing). The sweeping music, the stunning scenery, and those words by Baudelaire all come together to stir something in you. And every time I hear them, I’m reminded why I love what I do — and why France continues to call me back.

Because let’s be honest: sometimes we don’t need a reason to go. We just need to go. To answer that tug of wanderlust with a quiet, joyful “allons.”

If France has been tugging at your heart lately, here are just a few ways you can turn that dream into a beautiful adventure — whether you’re chasing art and history, food and wine, lavender fields, or even a little Disney magic.

🏰 Escorted Land Tours – See More, Stress Less
If you’re looking for a seamless way to explore France, an escorted land tour is a wonderful choice. I recently did one myself with Globus, and it was such a memorable way to experience not just Paris, but also Normandy and the Loire Valley.

We walked the beaches of D-Day, wandered through medieval towns, toured fairy-tale châteaux, and enjoyed regional food and wine that made every stop feel special. I especially recommend this style of travel for anyone who wants cultural depth without having to navigate all the logistics on their own.

🚢 River Cruises – The Most Relaxing Way to Explore
River cruises through France are truly something special. The ships are small and elegant, the scenery is incredible, and each day brings a new village, vineyard, or historic site to explore. And yes — the wine is just as good as you imagine.

Here are a few favorites:

Seine River – Perfect if you want to begin or end in Paris. You’ll explore Monet’s gardens in Giverny, charming towns like Rouen, and the beaches of Normandy.

Rhône River – Ideal for wine lovers and fans of sunny Provence. Highlights include Lyon, Avignon, Arles, and the landscapes that inspired Van Gogh.

Dordogne or Garonne Rivers – Lesser known, but absolutely beautiful — a great way to explore Bordeaux and southwest France in a slower, more intimate way.

You unpack once, relax on board, and enjoy France at a wonderfully unhurried pace.

🌊 Mediterranean Ocean Cruises – Glamour & Coastline
If your dream of France includes azure seas and pastel-colored villages, a Mediterranean cruise might be calling your name. Imagine docking in Marseille, Cannes, or even Corsica, and spending your day exploring cobblestone streets, tasting Provençal rosé, or lounging by the sea.

Cruises along the Med are a great way to mix France with other iconic destinations — Italy, Spain, Monaco — all in one elegant itinerary. And there’s just something magical about waking up in a new port every day.

🐭 A Little Disney Magic – Disneyland Paris
Now, if you’re like me and you have a soft spot for Disney, Disneyland Paris might be the most unexpected and delightful addition to your French itinerary.

Located just outside the city, it’s easy to pair a few park days with your time in Paris. And while it has that familiar Disney sparkle, it also has a distinctly European charm. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle here is inspired by French fairy tales, and you’ll find croissants and espresso right alongside your Mickey-shaped treats.

Whether you’re a lifelong Disney fan or just curious to experience it in a new setting, it’s a fun and whimsical way to add a bit of pixie dust to your vacation. I know it always makes me smile.

✨ France Is Always a Good Idea
Whether you’re sailing past sun-drenched vineyards, standing quietly at the edge of Omaha Beach, wandering through a Provençal market, or hearing a familiar quote echo in a Disney attraction… France has a way of moving you.

It’s not just beautiful — it’s meaningful. And it welcomes every kind of traveler.

If your heart has been whispering “let’s go,” maybe it’s time to listen. Whether you’d like help planning a river cruise, an escorted tour, a romantic escape, or a magical Paris + Disney adventure, I’d love to help you make it easy — and unforgettable.

Because sometimes, the journey begins with nothing more than a light heart… and a dream.

Allons.
