I’m thrilled to share that at the end of July, I’ll be embarking on an incredible journey along the Rhine River with Avalon Waterways. This picturesque cruise will take me from the charming canals of Amsterdam to the scenic beauty of Basel, Switzerland. Discovering the Rhine River with Avalon Waterways

Avalon Waterways is renowned for its luxurious and intimate river cruises, and this trip promises to be no exception. Amsterdam: The Journey Begins

Our adventure kicks off in Amsterdam, a city bursting with charm and character. Known for its iconic canals, vibrant art scene, and rich history, Amsterdam is the perfect starting point. I’ll be exploring its quaint streets, visiting world-class museums like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, and maybe even taking a leisurely bike ride through the city.

Windmills and Cheese in Kinderdijk

Our first stop will be Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its 19 historic windmills. These windmills are a quintessential symbol of the Netherlands, and I can’t wait to wander through this picturesque landscape. And of course, no visit to the Netherlands is complete without indulging in some delicious Dutch cheese!

Cologne: A Blend of Old and New

Next, we’ll sail to Cologne, Germany, a city that perfectly blends old-world charm with modern vibrancy. The stunning Cologne Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece, is a must-see. I’ll also be exploring the old town with its colorful houses and cozy cafes, sampling some local Kölsch beer along the way.

Rüdesheim: Vineyards and Views

Rüdesheim is a wine lover’s paradise. Nestled in the heart of Germany’s Rhine Valley, this charming town is surrounded by vineyards. I’ll be taking a scenic cable car ride over the vineyards to the Niederwald Monument for breathtaking views of the river. A visit to a local winery for a tasting of the region’s famous Riesling wine is definitely on the agenda!

Heidelberg: A Step Back in Time

Our journey then takes us to Heidelberg, home to one of Germany’s oldest universities and a magnificent hilltop castle. I’ll be exploring the castle ruins and the charming old town with its baroque architecture and lively atmosphere. The picturesque views of the Neckar River from the castle are not to be missed.

Strasbourg: A Taste of France

Crossing into France, we’ll visit Strasbourg, a city where French and German influences blend seamlessly. The UNESCO-listed old town, with its half-timbered houses and the stunning Strasbourg Cathedral, is a highlight. I’m especially excited to try some Alsatian cuisine – think flammekueche (a type of flatbread) and delicious pastries.

Basel: The Grand Finale

Our journey concludes in Basel, Switzerland, a city known for its vibrant cultural scene and beautiful medieval old town. I’ll be strolling along the Rhine, visiting world-class museums, and soaking up the unique blend of Swiss, German, and French influences.
